Mother’s! – Teach This to Your Daughters

Episode 78: Welcome to the She Builds Show, I’m your host, Stefanie Olson. I have come to realize that as a woman, being friends with another strong woman who lifts me up, is the most powerful thing I have ever experienced. And I want to raise a generation where we teach that, where we teach that the girl standing next to you is the most beautiful gift you can imagine. And you are to love her and care for her and be kind to her and lift her up.

This nonsense that happens between 5th grade and high school where girls are mean to other girls has to stop. It’s time for your daughter to know that all of the girls around her are the secret to her success that befriending them, treating them with kindness, never looking them up and down like they are judging them, that needs to be gone from their repertoire. The only thing that should remain in their consciousness when another woman or a girl walks up is, dang, I can’t wait to be her friend. She is incredible, smart, beautiful, lovely and powerful. Because I am done, and I need you to be done with it. As a mother of a daughter I need you to teach your daughter that strong women are incredible.

EPISODE TRANSCRIPT:

0:01 Welcome to The She Builds Show, I’m your host, Stefanie Olson, a licensed general contractor who builds new construction renovates and designs your vision today.

0:12 More than ever we need raw, authentic women who are willing to rise above society’s norms break those glass ceilings and encourage each other to boldly build the life we were meant to live.

0:24 So honey, what are you building?

0:27 Hey, it’s Stefanie Welcome to The She Builds Show.

0:32 It’s kind of late at night and it’s been a rough day.

0:35 It’s actually been a rough week.

0:37 But I have something really, really important I want to talk to you about and this message is for all the moms out there who have daughters.

0:49 I have a daughter.

0:50 She is 11 and she has been struggling with friends at school and I just left a mom around her girls all of our girls that have been struggling for the last week or so just getting along and I one am so grateful that I live in a small enough town to where we as mothers can help our daughters work things out rather than just having them suffer because most of my awkward 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th grade years I just suffered.

1:32 I think probably like a lot of you just suffered at the hand of girls being mean to girls and I am done with it.

1:44 I am literally done with girls being mean to girls with women tearing down women.

1:53 It is the most disgusting thing that we allow our culture to do to let women tear down women to let women look down upon women and let our girls who we are raising tear down other girls.

2:14 I am done with it.

2:17 And I hope that you can come alongside me and be done with it as well.

2:22 And you may not have a tween or a teenager yet, but maybe you’re 3,4,5,6 years old girl is coming up in age and she is going to face this. It is time for us mothers to rally around each other and to rally around our girls and teach them that those other girls in their life are the biggest allies they will ever have.

2:54 They are the people who will support them the most if we could let go of our egos, if we could let go of being better than one another.

3:04 If we could let go of comparison.

3:07 Because together we are incredible.

3:13 I have come to know this.

3:16 I have come to realize that as a woman being friends with another strong woman who lifts me up.

3:27 It is the most powerful thing I have ever experienced.

3:32 And I am done with letting the next generation carry on something other than that I’m done with it.

3:44 It’s time for your daughter to know that all of the girls around her are the secret to her success that befriending them, treating them with kindness.

3:59 Never looking them up and down like they are judging them.

4:03 That that is gone from their repertoire.

4:07 That the only thing that remains in their consciousness when another woman or girl walks up is dang, I can’t wait to be her friend.

4:18 She is incredible and smart and beautiful and lovely and powerful.

4:24 Women are incredible.

4:27 Strong, powerful women who are leaders is incredible.

4:31 And I want my daughter to know that it’s time for her to step into that greatness and to know that she has a purpose, and she is one amazing friendship away from that.

4:45 That if she finds other women that support her, my gosh, a girl can do anything with that kind of support.

4:54 Because when women support each other, it is not in a little tiny way, it is in a huge way.

5:01 We pour into the people that we love in a way I have never experienced before because when we see our friend and something’s not quite right.

5:15 We know we know in a way that maybe their own husband may not recognize.

5:22 We know we’re like, what’s wrong you?

5:24 Okay, what’s going on?

5:26 Tell me about it.

5:26 And then when we say what we’re feeling to them, and we trust them enough to know that us women do not have to be alone, and we have somebody to pour out to.

5:38 Strong women need other strong women in their life.

5:41And I want to raise a generation where we teach that where we teach that that girl standing next to you is the most beautiful gift you can imagine, and you are to love her and care for her and be kind to her and lift her up and this nonsense that happens between 5th grade and high school.

6:09 I’m done with it.

6:11 Teach your daughters, teach your daughters to view that girl, that beautiful girl that is across the classroom from her as a gift and an ally and somebody that could encourage her have that attitude when you see another beautiful woman have that mindset when you see somebody doing amazing things and cheer them on because I am done and I need you to be done with it as a mother of a daughter.

6:47 I need you to teach your daughter that strong women are incredible.

6:52 Could you imagine if all of the women in this world taught their daughters to be nice to other daughters, to be nice to other women and all the women in the world supported all the women.

7:05 We would freaking rule the world.

7:07 I mean like come on, that is an incredible thought.

7:12 And all I’m trying to do is start with mine.

7:15 I just listened to Ed Mylett at the Keller Williams family reunion, talk about one more and it’s about his book.

7:23 The concept of just one more.

7:25  You can just do one more thing.

7:27You know, tell your daughter you love her one more time.

7:30 Tell your husband you love him one more time.

7:32 Because it’s just always that extra the extra one that matters because it could be one opportunity.

7:39 One conversation.

7:40 One tiny little thing that changes your life forever.

7:45 And he showed the packing on of the one thing that changed his life and I’m like, all I got to do is teach my daughter that and if you teach your daughter that and then she teaches her daughter that it’s going to spread like wildfire.

8:01 So just do me a favor and be done with it.

8:04 Be done with the concept that it’s okay for girls to be mean to girls because it’s not women and girls are incredible and powerful and strong. And I’m blessed to be able to raise one and by golly, mine will see the value in yours.

8:27 I know she will spread that message for me today. Please, please.

8:31 Thanks for listening.
